For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.
But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.
Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself—and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.
To say that I was weary to start this series would be a little bit of an understatement. For years I have seen these incredibly beautiful books in stores and online, taunting me with their gorgeousness. And, yes, I have heard a lot of good things about them, but dystopian reads are not always my favourite books to pick up and so I have delayed starting this series for a while now.
That was until I recieved a copy of book four in the series The Heir from it's publisher and I knew that it was time to start this epic series. And, man, do I regret not having this book in my life sooner!
Cass has managed to create a dystopian world without it being complex or surreal. I love how easy this book was to pick up and read. But more than that, I completely fell in love with the story. With America and her innocence, with Maxon and his charm. Aspen's love and the glamorous world they all stumble into. I love how easy it was to fall in love with with this series.
I have been in such a reading slump for a while now and Cass has definitely done the best job of pulling me out of it! I cannot wait to see where the story goes next...
I am definitely going to be picking up the rest of the series when I get paid tomorrow, so look out for the rest of my reviews coming soon.
