There was once a time when darkness shrouded the world, and the darkness had a queen.
Adelina Amouteru is done suffering. She’s turned her back on those who have betrayed her and achieved the ultimate revenge: victory. Her reign as the White Wolf has been a triumphant one, but with each conquest her cruelty only grows. The darkness within her has begun to spiral out of control, threatening to destroy all that she’s achieved.
Adelina’s forced to revisit old wounds when a new danger appears, putting not only Adelina at risk, but every Elite and the very world they live in. In order to save herself and preserve her empire, Adelina and her Roses must join the Daggers on a perilous quest—though this uneasy alliance may prove to be the real danger.
Bestselling author Marie Lu concludes Adelina's story with this haunting and hypnotizing final installment to the Young Elites series.
I always worry about endings. I feel like it has to be so hard for authors to balance pleasing their fans but at the same time staying true to their story when it comes to writing endings. We’ve all seen a series crash and burn right at the very end. But there have also been a lot of stellar endings. Endings that just feel right. Endings that fit what the story needs and what the fans deserve. Marie Lu gave us one of those endings with her Legend series, and she has gone above and beyond to do it again with THE MIDNIGHT STAR.
For me, The Midnight Star was a solid 4 stars...until I got to the last 50 pages. Those last few chapters took this book to a whole new level. 5 stars aren’t enough to convey how I feel about this conclusion. It’s taken me a week just to find words to *kind of* describe all of the emotions this book wrenched out of me. Marie Lu is so, so, so good at telling her story the way it needs to be told. I can’t imagine a better way for The Young Elites series to end. It was a perfect conclusion. Did it hurt? So much. Was the pain worth it? 100% yes.
I read this one pretty fast. It’s not a long book, and it was very easy to become engrossed in the story and the characters(Raffaele, my love!). I definitely felt like this installment was more action-packed and fast-paced than The Rose Society, and it was my favorite book of the series. For it’s size, a lot happens and it keeps the story moving along at a great pace.
I feel like The Midnight Star is going to stay with me for a long, long time. I already find my thoughts drifting back to the ending with a sense of nostalgia and adoration for the characters and story. Marie Lu has showed that she is just insanely talented, and this book is a perfect example of her fantastic storytelling. It has cemented her as one of my favorite authors and I can’t wait to see what else she has in store.
