When night falls, they will come...
The year is 1544 and the two rival kingdoms of England and France battle for supremacy. Plague has decimated both armies and wiped out half of the population of Europe. But a new enemy is about to rise...
Hal is a conflicted young English archer - a reluctant soldier who is accompanying his father’s army in a siege against a French castle. When attacked by the reanimated corpses of plague victims, Hal is saved by a mysterious French girl known as Le Diable Rouge. As sworn enemies whose countries are at war, they must work together to travel across France and survive the threat of the Risers.
I love zombie books. But, I like hem to be different, to be original. Not just a bunch of undead limping around, moaning and whining for brains. I got exactly what I wanted with Plague Risers, and then some.

Plague Risers follows the story of Hal, an English archer, Julietta, a French warrior and daughter of a Duke, and Lars, a surly Norwegian soldier sworn to protect Hal. This unlikely group has to band together and put aside their prejudices in order to find a cure to a new plague, a plague that is causing people to rise from the dead with a vengeance.

I loved this book! I can't stress that enough. First of all, the zombies, or as they're called in the book 'plague risers' or 'risers', are unlike any zombies I've read about. Kudos to Ergo for pulling that off and doing so well. It gave the story such a unique feel.

Second, the characters are fantastic. I quickly came to love Hal, Julietta is a supreme badass, and Lars, well, I pictured Lars as Thor, only with an axe instead of Mjolnir, and it was wonderful. They are all so heartfelt and real.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone looking for a fast-paced read with shocking twists and a fantastic story. Ergo has done a fantastic job of weaving a world that seems like it easily could have been a part of our history. I cannot wait to see where the story goes in the sequel!

If you are attending YALC this weekend head over to Anthony Ergo's stall where he and Charli will be selling copies of all his books, including this latest release Plague Risers!
