Sending a HUGE thank you to the lovely people at Penguin Young Readers for letting me take part in the blog tour for Rachel Hawkins' ROYALS! Keep reading for more about this lovely book and for my review!
I'm a sucker for stories about royalty, I'll admit it. I grew up with the Princess Diaries books, so a story about an average girl thrust into royal life? Definitely my cup of tea. When I read the description of Rachel Hawkins' ROYALS I knew it was one I needed to check out, and I was definitely not disappointed.
First off, Royals is funny. Seriously, some off the cuff comments the characters, especially the main character Daisy, make had me actually laughing out loud. The whole book has a lovely, lighthearted charm that works so well and made it a really endearing story.
I do wish this book had been a bit longer though! I felt that the romance suffered a little because of the story's length. I won't go so far as to say there was insta-love, but the romance did feel rushed. Once it was there it really worked, and I felt that the characters had genuine chemistry, but I would have like another maybe fifty pages or so for them to build their relationship.
The characters in Royals are really fun. I already touched on the humor and how fun Daisy is, but the side characters are all really great as well.
I highly recommend ROYALS, especially for anyone looking for a quick, fun summer read. Fans of the Meg Cabot or Kasie West will really enjoy this one. And I'm definitely looking forward to reading more from Rachel Hawkins in the future, especially if she revisits the world of ROYALS!
