First off, I want to send the BIGGEST of thanks to Rockstar Book Tours for letting me take part in the blog tour for the latest installment in the Illuminae Files, OBSIDIO! Keep reading for my review(hint: it's 5 stars) plus a giveaway!
This. Book. Gave. Me. Feelings. Y'all.
So. If you're a fan of the first two books in the Illuminae Files series, Illuminae and Gemina, then I promise you that you will love OBSIDIO. It has all the same best parts- amazing characters(Kade and Ezra! Hannah and Nik! The love of my life, AIDAN! YAY!) plus some new one to fall in love with, the same perfected format that I really don't want anyone besides Jay and Amie to even attempt at this point, wonderfully snarky humor- the list just goes on and on. In short, this book is a fantastic installment to an already stellar series.
My favorite part of Obsidio was getting to see my faves on the page again. Kady is one of the best ladies I've read in YA, I will forever and always want to put her in my pocket and just keep her safe and warm forever, so getting to read more about her was just delightful. But, let's be honest. I. AM. HERE. FOR. AIDAN. AIDAN is *hands down* one of my absolute favorite book characters and OH DOES AIDAN SHINE IN THIS ONE. I really can't go into specifics because ~spoilers~ but let me just say that AIDAN had some of the best moments since "Am I not merciful?" in OBSIDIO and I am still have emotions about it two weeks later.
I don't think the new characters, Asha and Rhys, were as strong as their predecessors. I feel like this is because Obsidio had SO much ground to cover, it had to finish up not only the overarching story but all of the individual character stories as well, so Asha and Rhys didn't really have as much page space to shine like, say, Hannah and Nik did. Not that I didn't enjoy their story, but I did find myself wanting to hurry past their parts to get to my faves. Despite that, I will say this- Asha is a boss and is wonderful and I would totally read a spinoff starring her(stares intensely at Amie and Jay).
Y'all. OBSIDIO is the ending we all wanted, we all needed, we all deserved. If you haven't picked up a copy yet(WHY NOT) then I suggest you do so right away, and also probably set aside a good chunk of time to just read it all in one go because, speaking from experience, you are not going to want to put this book down.
AIDAN for president.
