Scarlett doesn’t remember anything before the age of five. Her parents say it’s from the trauma of seeing her house burn down, and she accepts the life they’ve created for her without question—until a car accident causes Scarlett to start remembering pieces of an unfamiliar past.
When a new guy moves into town, Scarlett feels an instant spark. But Noah knows the truth of Scarlett’s past, and he’s determined to shield her from it...because Scarlett grew up in a cult called Eternal Light, controlled by her biological parents.
And they want her back.
I don’t usually read thrillers. Most of the thrillers I’ve tried to read just didn’t hold my attention, I guess it’s not a genre that really intrigues me. I won Awake by Natasha Preston in a contest and wanted a quick, easy read one night, so I decided to give it a shot. Well, it was a quick read, but only because it grabbed my attention from the first page and demanded to be finished as fast as possible!
I really enjoyed Awake! Having never read any of Preston’s previous books, I had no idea what to expect from her as far as writing quality. I wasn’t in the least disappointed, the book flowed so well that I would sit down to read for a few minutes and suddenly realized I’d read 100 pages!
The story was very gripping and, at times, pretty intense. It was somewhat crazy to read, Natasha made it seem so real, like the events from Awake could be happening next door and you would never even know! The characters were believable to the point that I could feel my heart racing because of the way some of them acted.
I’ve been recommending this book like crazy to everyone I know who loves to read. I absolutely plan to read more of Preston’s books and will most likely read Awake many more times in the future! This book is perfect for anyone looking for a fast-paced, get-in-your-head-and-freak-you-out kind of book!
